Kayaking Eco-Tours

On the beautiful Indian River Lagoon,
Sebastian Inlet State Park, Florida

Our eco-tours accomodate groups of two to forty. We have single and double kayaks available!

Your eco-tour will take you within the watershed of the Indian River Lagoon, where more than 2,200 different species of animals, including the most diverse bird population found in North America, make their home.

You are likely to encounter Atlantic Bottlenose Dolphins, West Indian Manatees, river otters, and several species of crabs including hermit crabs, blue crabs, and mangrove crabs, among many other things. The Indian River Lagoon is also home to approximately 40 rare and endangered animal species, including green and loggerhead sea turtles, Atlantic saltmarsh snakes, and manatees.

You will see an incredible variety of plants and animals in their native habitats on our two-hour and four-hour eco-tours. Our certified ecotour guides are experienced and knowledgable, friendly and very familiar with the area. For example, one of our guides is a biologist who has worked in the environmental field in Florida for 20 years; her specialty is botany. One is a specialist in the rare and endangered migratory and native birds in the area. All have done guided tours in the region for over 3 years, and have kayaked in and explored the waters of the Indian River Lagoon for over 20 years.

Experienced with small groups as well as large, our guides have guided tour groups from the Royal Caribbean Cruise Line and the Cunard Cruise ships from Port Canaveral, school groups, church groups, convention groups from the Orlando Convention Center, nature clubs, bird-watching groups, and Audubon clubs, as well as individuals and couples who just want to explore the area.

During your tour, we will stretch our legs and beach our kayaks along some of the numerous islands located within the lagoon area. We will do some hands-on exploring of some of the species along the shore line, including shrimp, crabs, and many species of fish.

You will observe firsthand some of the multitude of species located within this unique mangrove forest ecosystem.

Some of the many migratory and native birds you'll likely see on your tour include the Osprey, Great White Egret and the Wood Stork. Also likely to be encountered are numerous other aquatic birds such as herons, egrets and the rare and beautiful Roseate Spoonbill.

The Indian River Lagoon is located along the Atlantic Flyway, which is a key migratory route for an enormous variety of bird species. In the winter, hundreds of thousands of birds on their way to more tropical destinations stop off in the Indian River Lagoon to rest and feed in its highly productive waters. Particularly in mild winters, many of these birds decide not to continue south, but instead spend the winter on the lagoon. In these years the local winter bird population is very high.
